Meet the Interior Designer Behind Nostalgic Home Interiors in Somers, CT
Hi there! I’m Melissa, owner and principal designer of Nostalgic Home Interiors, a full-service interior design studio serving Northern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, as well as its companion storefront, The Nostalgic Home.
My love for interiors started long before I ever imagined owning a design business. I’ve always been drawn to old homes, beautiful textiles, collected pieces, and vintage finds with a story to tell. That passion led me to earn my Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design in 2009, followed by years of experience throughout the industry—from flooring and furniture to residential building and working alongside other design firms.
In 2020, life changed in a way I never could have anticipated when I lost my son, Zachary, at five months pregnant. In the midst of that grief, I found myself searching for a creative outlet and a new direction. I began refinishing furniture, and what started small quickly grew into a business of its own. By 2022, I was able to leave my job and pursue it full time.
Over the next few years, that little furniture business evolved right along with me—first into selling vintage pieces, then opening a storefront, and eventually bringing me back to where my heart had always been: interior design. In early 2024, I officially launched Nostalgic Home Interiors and transitioned away from furniture refinishing to focus on full-service design.
Today, The Nostalgic Home is both a curated shop filled with vintage furniture and décor and the home base for my design studio. You’ll often find me at the mill surrounded by fabric and wallpaper samples, antique finds, and probably several different ideas spread across the table.
My approach to design is rooted in creating homes that feel comfortable, collected, and timeless—spaces that are beautiful without feeling overly perfect or precious. I love mixing old and new, incorporating color and pattern, and finding those special pieces that give a home personality and make it feel as though it came together naturally over time.
When I’m not designing or treasure hunting for the shop, I’m usually at home with my husband and our daughter, our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Lucy, and our lively flock of 20 chickens.
I feel incredibly lucky to do what I love every day and to help my clients create homes that are not only beautiful, but truly feel like their own.
